The state of California truly does have a unique economy. At one time, the economy of California was larger than most countries in the world. While the state has had its ups and downs in recent years, it still remains a burgeoning part of the country that attracts scores of new residences and businesses each and every year. That certainly has an impact on the need for jobs in architecture in California.

There are quite a few differences between architecture employment in California and other states. The basics of the profession don't change. There are certain basics and aesthetics that do not change. However, architects do need to understand there are differences which will alter your approach to the profession.

Different Positions and Specializations

Some of the spheres of California architecture work are often overlooked. Most people will examine the great, grand buildings of downtown Los Angeles or the luxurious mansions of Beverly Hills or Malibu as a clear indication of the prime architecture work that is performed in the city. It would certainly be an accurate assumption to state that such work does require the skills of solid, reliable professionals. It would also be accurate to infer that there is consistent great demand for architecture jobs in California. Such jobs obviously revolve around performing these tasks. However, there is far more depth and scope to such positions than most people may initially realize. Case and point, certain uniqueness presents within the state of California carries over in the profession of architecture. That means there will be requirements for the profession that lead to a need for specialized help. Here are examples of such specialization:

• Earthquake Proofing Buildings - In the city of San Francisco, there will always be concerns about earthquake damage. A powerful earthquake could easily topple a skyscraper or large building. To prevent such problems from occurring, buildings need to be designed with an "anti-earthquake skeletal frame" that absorbs the impact of the earthquake. This, in turn, keeps the structure from easily collapsing.

• Highways, Roads, and Bridges - California is not a state known for its expansive public transportation. Since people primarily get to work via car, there always needs to be effective design and maintenance of highway, road, and bring infrastructure. Additionally, there will also be a need to develop and devise buildings that can be effectively weaved into the existing road system. The architectural skills required to handle such work must be of the highest level. Those that do possess these skills may discover their career potential expanded to a great degree.

• Environmentally Conscious Architecture - California prides itself on its "green initiatives" and this creates certain complexities when it comes to architectural processes. Such complexities are not problems for those that understand green architecture design. Rather, they can be considered opportunities for those with such skills.

Ultimately, this sentiment could be said of any and all architecture positions in California. Due to the complexities associated with architectural design, very few professionals are capable to perform many of the advanced design tasks. Again, this can create a potentially lucrative opportunity for those seeking great career advancement in profession.

It bears repeating that as long as you have a strong foundation in the basics of architecture, you can find a foothold in the profession in the state of California. Obviously, if you have a great deal of experience in the profession of architecture, you can make the transition to the specialties of working in the field in the state of California. A proper background sets the stage for learning the various other components associated with "California centric" architecture.

Now, does this mean that there are no "standard" architecture jobs in California? No, no one is making such an assessment. There are a great many architecture jobs that do not center on specialty design work or building ventures. Basic architectural design will always be needed as well. Of course, there will also be a need for entry level jobs as well as administrative and peripheral positions. Such positions open many potential opportunities for those that want to make a mark in the architecture world in the Golden State. Consider such great expansiveness to be a huge positive for those that would prefer to work in the profession and explore all career potential available in it.
