Looking for a new career? Tired of your old job and looking to broaden your horizons? We would all like a new and exciting job, but sometimes searching for a new career can be overwhelming and frustrating beyond belief. The job market seems to have thinned out, and there is a grim outlook for future employment at the present time. Not all is lost, though, as there are still jobs out there that need to be filled by talented professionals who are looking to make a difference in people's lives. How can you make such a difference? A start would be a job in landscaping architecture. We all love beautiful landscaping for its capacity to enhance the overall appearance of our front lawns. We also enjoy nicely landscaped campuses, parks, golf courses, and playgrounds. A visually stimulating area can greatly influence property values and add a beautiful touch to an already beautiful structure.

So what is landscaping architecture? Landscaping architecture is the organization and arrangement of flowers, trees, walkways, and roads to adapt to the surrounding environment. Not only does landscaping architecture involve adding a nice range of flowers to an area, it also entails correcting and improving areas that have been ruined by development such as forests and wetlands. Landscape architects must survey the given piece of land and develop a well-organized plan for what the project needs. Landscaping architecture requires knowledge of soil, plants, types of grasses to be used in certain parts of the country, where sunlight falls, the sewage system in relation to water drainage, and which types of plants will survive in the given climate. Landscaping architecture is much more detailed and thorough than ordinary gardening. You must be proficient in math and computer programs, have artistic ability, and use good communication skills with clients. Those who become involved in landscaping architecture should have an appreciation of nature in all its forms and understand which plants work best with each other.

Another interesting aspect of landscaping architecture is in preserving existing landmarks and historical sites by creating landscape security fences with large trees and shrubs. Not only do they add a visual appeal, they also protect important sites. Many tourist locations in the United States and all over the world have beautiful landscaping architecture that represents the given building or structure well. As great as a building may look from the inside and outside, the surrounding area should be breathtaking.

Landscaping architecture requires architecture and design training and preferably a master's degree from an accredited school. There are also internship and on-the-job training opportunities available. In most states, landscaping architects need to be licensed through the Landscape Architect Registration Examination. In many cases, landscaping firms will hire apprentices to work under a seasoned landscaping architect. This is another great way to get on-the-job training while in the process of becoming licensed.

Also, landscaping architecture opportunities vary based on location, with warmer climates tending to have the need for more landscaping than cooler climates. If your looking for a job, then, you should be willing to relocate to a warmer climate for more work. In turn, warmer climate areas will see more competition for jobs. During slow economic times, less houses are built and sold, and therefore less people are in the market for professional landscaping architecture. Thankfully, landscape architects are not limited to just working on residential houses -- they also work around commercial buildings -- so there are opportunities for work even during recessions.

Being that this is such a competitive field, it is very important to gain as much knowledge in architecture and design as possible. When employers hire an architect, they want him or her to have as much knowledge as possible. That means knowledge of all relevant computer programs, the ability to stay within a given budget, and strong technical skills. The employment rate is set to rise for landscape architects over the next decade due to the increase in the population, old companies leaving, and new companies moving in. New companies that are looking to go ''green'' will want ecologically friendly landscaping that adheres to new laws and policies.

The average salary for a landscaping architect is around $55,000 per year, and the more established, experienced landscape architects can earn up to $95,000. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement. Those who show the necessary skill set and provide employers with successful landscaping architecture over the course of a few years can become partners in a firm.

Landscaping architecture can enable you to have a major impact in society by developing the tools needed to create wonderful, eye-catching landscapes that will be appreciated by everyone who sees them.

The job hunt will be a long road to travel, but if you are persistent and willing to make the necessary sacrifices, you will find the career you desire most.

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
