Within CO I, the Infrastructure, Planning and Acquisition team is responsible for supporting delivery of datacenter capacity for Microsoft’s cloud business. We have a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-million, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects with specific safety, quality, schedule, and cost goals.

To help us accelerate achieving our objectives, growth, and transformation, we are looking for a strong Construction Estimator to lead our estimating globally providing conceptual and project level estimating across the data center construction portfolio.

The Lead Estimator is responsible for managing the global estimating team in the development and maintenance of estimates and cost targets for all datacenter builds in region and support globally. This role will be concentrated on both current Data Center projects and forward-looking technology cost Estimating. The Estimating team will manage all cost estimates, cost data, communications, schedule meetings and be a point of contact between internal and external parties for specific programs, projects or regions being supported. The Estimating team will work closely with engineering, construction, procurement, security, networking, and operations teams throughout each project and ensure cost information developed and managed meets the requirements of those specific project needs.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:


The ideal candidate will be an experienced senior construction estimator and/or a chartered Quantity surveyor, RICS qualified, with deep knowledge in construction costs & estimating plus a good working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
The ideal candidate will have experience in leading senior estimating and comfortable presenting and defending estimates to executives.
Manage and develop a global team of senior experienced construction cost Estimators as they support both the project portfolio and all future looking technologies connected with the developing data center designs. The estimating scope includes:
Development of cost estimates from the project outset through to the support of the contract sum agreements
Provision of estimating support services for project change management and dispute resolution
Developing market data and tracking for global & Regional trends
Support the development and updating of estimates for existing and new technology Plans of Records
Provide regular report-outs and reviews with partner teams, internal teams and senior leadership regarding the scope, schedule and budgets for the projects or programs assigned.
Developing all front-end Estimates for new and emerging technologies for the DC portfolio
Partner will all groups at Microsoft that touch or interact with our Datacenter build projects, ensuring alignment along all sectors in the development and review of estimate provided for datacenters or special program
Ownership and development of Estimating processes, templates and tools


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 10 years of related experienceo OR equivalent experience.
6 years of leadership experience in Construction Cost Estimating or Cost Management


Preferred Qualifications:


Shall have knowledge of and perform to the following industry standards and practices: ASPE, CSI, AACEI, RICS
Can clearly set and lead meetings to review and discuss estimates or estimating activities
High level of understanding of the globaleconomic conditions and how those conditions would affect the work being completed and the associated costs of said issues
Possess multi-discipline experience and understand and be able to estimate all facets of a datacenter construction project (CSA, Mechanical, Electrical, Telecom)
Past work historyinPharmaceutical, High-Tech or Industrial projects; datacenter industry a plus
RICS full membership (MRICS or FRICS) or equivalent
Deep commercial knowledge of construction internationally
Capability to perform all forms and types of estimates from parametric to bottoms up and high level what-if scenarios.
Possess and demonstrate a full range of understanding and appreciation for the Estimating process and how that process ties to the overall organizational goals
Understand and be able to review and discuss plan drawings, and One-Line diagrams (schematics)
Understand the impact of time and location on construction costs and accurately incorporate those costs into any estimate provided
Develop, maintain, and report out on project/program scope, schedule, and budget with cost as the main driver in those conversations

Construction Project Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $292,200 per year.

Microsoft has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets (see below). The range above reflects the potential base pay across the U.S. for this role (except as noted below); the applicable base pay range will depend on what ultimately is determined to be the candidate’s primary work location. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.

At Microsoft certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role. U.S.-based employees have access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and wellbeing benefits, among others. Additionally, hourly/non-exempt employees accrue up to 120 hours paid vacation time, and salaried/exempt employees have Discretionary Time Off (DTO).
