The Schneider organization has a need for the Summer 2018 Internship program for a Facilities Interior Design Intern who will be responsible for assisting the Facilities Interior Designer with designing efficient work stations, offices, conference rooms, and driver services areas for the organization nationwide. This will include specifying and purchasing all furniture, flooring, wall coverings, and finishes for all Schneider locations. Designers project manage all their projects from beginning to end including the installation of furniture, finishes, horizontal voice/data wiring and the actual move of associates, furniture and technology equipment. The Interior Design Intern assists with interior office building design of large scale projects involving new buildings, expansions and upgrades. In this role you will gain visibility to the various entities of Schneider while developing insights into the design of a large organization.
Duties and responsibilities to include but not limited to:
Create solutions for the day to day moves and changes due to growth or reorganizations within departments
Conduct internal customer interviews to develop project scope
Develop various office design layouts to meet specific business requirements, as well as applicable legal requirements (safety, emergency, ADA, etc)
Conduct project meetings with internal customers, support departments and suppliers
Develop construction documents for interior remodels; review architectural design documents
Prepare estimates for design projects, solicit bids, award work and manage suppliers
Research new products and trends for office environments; best value to meet business needs
Develop and maintain customer alignment and customer service to internal customers
Provide data to maintain the multi-year capital/ expense budgeting tool for company-wide projects
Maintain and update resource library

Qualified candidates should possess the following criteria:
Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or related field; or the equivalent; office design coursework completion preferred
Proficient in AutoCAD; SketchUp knowledge is a plus
Problem solving and critical thinking skills
Creative, motivated and attention to detail
Strong negotiation, project management and leadership skills
Strong work ethic and customer service focus
Interpersonal effectiveness in influencing others without having direct authority
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to reprioritize work to meet changing business needs
