Job Description Opening Date:1\/11\/17 Closing Date:1\/25\/17 We are currently seeking a Senior Project Architect for our Facilities Engineering department based in our Center City headquarters. In this role, you will work on a variety of projects, encompassing both new work and renovations from design through construction. On most jobs, you will serve as the project manager, and also provide mentoring for entry level designers in the department. Leading up to construction, you will also assist in purchasing materials and planning job phasing, then during construction provide architectural support in the field. If you are a Registered Architect (RA) with 6 or more years of architectural experience, please apply. Salary range: $65,650 - $82,056. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY For the position of Senior Project Architect, an extensive background in architecture\/construction is required as well as a knowledge of business practices in order to understand and make decisions on the various aspects involved in managing projects produced by the SEPTA Bridges and Buildings Department. Because of the necessity for involvement in all stages of the project, the Senior Project Architect must come in contact with many people at higher organizational levels than him\/herself, both within SEPTA and outside the Authority. His\/her contacts include Department Managers and Directors of Maintenance and Construction within SEPTA, as well as consultant and contractor firm representatives and Federal, State, City and local government officials. As such, he\/she must possess the ability to communicate effectively in an executive, non-technical environment. The Senior Project Architect applies intensive and diversified knowledge of architecture principles and practices in broad areas of engineering and construction. He\/she must make decisions independently with regard to engineering problems and construction methods. The knowledge and expertise required for the level of work in this grade usually results from progressive experience. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Manages aspects of various projects as assigned by the Department Manager to ensure that project planning, design, implementation and completion meets the requirements and needs of SEPTA and the requirements of all the agencies, governments, special interest groups and the general public to which SEPTA is responsible. 2. Plans and prepares schedules, construction drawings and specifications for each project. Reviews construction documents prepared by third party consultants for accuracy and assurance of compliance to SEPTA Design standards. 3. Supervises and reviews the work of structural and mechanical designers and other personnel involved in the assigned project. 4. Coordinates the ordering of materials and equipment for repair and alteration projects and new construction. 5. Confers with appropriate administrative and construction\/maintenance personnel regarding proposed construction and alteration programs and plans. 6. Trains Project Architects in the duties of project management. 7. Demonstrates familiarities with all phases of a design project from Concept Design through to Construction Administration. 8. Ensures that all applicable codes, accessibility and regulatory agency guidelines are followed. 9. Continually utilizes appropriate construction methods and materials, and employs proper methods of surveying and inspection. 10. Reviews, analyzes, and makes recommendations regarding designs, plans, and specifications. 11. Interprets and carries out complex oral and written instructions including the reading and interpretation of blueprints and specifications. 12. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with field and administrative personnel. 13. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE \ufffd Bachelor of Architecture and six (6) years architecture experience or an equivalent combination of architecture and project management. \ufffd Registered Architect licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required. \ufffd Must be proficient in the latest versions of the following programs; AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and Adobe Suite required. \ufffd Effective verbal and written communication skills.
