DRS Naval Power Systems (NPS)
a multi-site operation responsible for $350 million of revenue with locations in Milwaukee, WI, Bridgeport/Danbury, CT, Fitchburg, MA, and High Ridge, MO with an employee base of approximately 900 employees. NPS is structured into four Lines of Business: Power, Machines, Nuclear instrumentation and Controls and Marlo Coil focusing on supporting the power and propulsion needs of the U.S. Navy. We provide engineering, manufacturing and lifetime support of our highly engineered products.

The Director of Facilities and Construction will support executive leadership in the development and execution of a strategic facilities roadmap for the Milwaukee relocation. This individual will assist in all areas of analysis and budgeting, provide executive leadership briefs, and support the implementation of facility development projects. This individual will work closely with Corporate Real Estate and the Naval Power Systems leadership to accomplish business priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in developing and executing strategic plan for facility relocation including budgets and timelines.
Develop and maintain a multi-year outlook for needed capital infrastructure upgrades.
Prepare various RFP's needed for vendor and contractor services for projects as required.
Provide senior level advisory and hands on leadership as required to facilitate real estate, design and construction project goals
Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) is emphasized throughout all phases of the project
Directly manage and/or provide executive oversite at various design or construction stages
Upon award of a project, develop project specific goals associated with project scope, schedules, budgets and detailed assumptions.
Actively track each aspect of project performance against schedules and budget metrics.
Identify and work to mitigate areas of concern regarding potential liabilities and risk (fee, reputation, errors and omissions, etc.).
Oversee vendor and project team members work to ensure compliance with contract and client expectations.
Maintain knowledge of engineering consultants and construction management firms.
Recommend consultants and contractors for bid lists based on knowledge of their strengths.
Evaluate cost, proposed staff, and technical ability. Give suppliers clear and straightforward feedback on their performance.
Ensure all designs meet current codes and insurance requirements.
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management
15 years of practical experience in project management or construction-related experience
Significant experience in facilities improvement design & construction, construction management, and/or commercial real estate development
Project Controls and Finance experience, including understanding of:
o Scheduling (including manpower loading)
o Progress measurement
o Risk assessment and management
o Code of accounts
o Work breakdown structure
o Change management
o Cost control
o Estimating process and planning
Regulatory requirements, including permitting
Demonstration of innovation, initiative, maturity, and sound judgment
Strong working knowledge of architectural & engineering construction documents, technology design and implementation, furniture system integration, and space planning concepts
Ability to successfully communicate with architects, engineers, contractors, client's representatives, and team members.
