Architect/Team Coordinator

in the Transportation Facilities Group located in the San Francisco or San Jose Office. With the intimacy of a small group of staff, along with the support of a large firm, this is an excellent and unique opportunity for the right candidate to challenge themselves and to grow their career.

The Transportation Facilities Group (TFG) leads and design projects that supports local and regional growth initiatives through small and large transportation projects. Our goal is to team with our agency clients and to develop solutions to the complex challenge of advancing transportation throughout the region. TFG has over 80 architects and engineers throughout the US, with major design hubs located in New York City, Boston, St Louis, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The successful candidate will coordinate staff for wide array of projects in the transportation field. Responsibilities include coordination of multiple entities and disciplines over a wide variety of projects and pursuits. Multidisciplinary understanding of facility design and strong organizational skills are critical. Position will require ability to assimilate information from clients and managers, coordinate and direct technical designers and production staff to develop accurate products to achieve desired results. Typical projects include bus, rail and intermodal stations, airports, maintenance facilities, parking structures, administration buildings, etc.

Responsibilities include:

Providing a critical link between multiple entities, often separated by geography and / or bodies of knowledge

Coordination of various disciplines and their designs including structural, civil and MEP engineering, landscape architecture and project specifications

Assistance in the development design alternatives and contract document for traditional and alternate delivery projects

Monitoring Workload Breakdown Structures (WBS) and project schedules

Attending and / or conduction project coordination meetings

Creating, circulating, correcting and issuing meeting agendas and minutes

Development of project progress reports as needed

Assisting review of architectural designs and detailed code and regulatory compliance under the supervision of a senior / project architect

Participating in business development including developing narratives and graphics for proposals

Coordinate with area office marketing and business development leadership

Attend client board meetings and functions to develop and manage relations

Track future projects

Foster TFG team building and growth in the area

Typical projects types include:

Transportation segments include rail, bus, airports and marine ports; Facility building types include administration buildings, tolling structures, parking structures, bus, rail and multi-modal stations including associated maintenance facilities, ancillary buildings, vent buildings, etc.

Pre-K through higher education school buildings

Low rise office buildings as well as office fit outs

Resiliency related studies and design

Parks and recreation centers

Job Requirements


NAAB Accredited degree in Architecture is preferred, but an architectural or urban design related degree is acceptable

10 years of professional experience

Be capable of effectively leading tasks and staff

Excellent oral, written and graphic communication skills that will handle varied projects across varied disciplines

Detailed experience related to architectural building design and construction support services

Working knowledge of construction drawing standards, some transit architecture related experience required

Strong ability to use MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint etc

Proficiency in AutoCAD, REVIT, SketchUp and / or Rhino

Capability to use graphic visualization tools such, 3D Studio MAX, Adobe Creative Suite and / or MicroStation is a benefit

Ability to make physical models would be regarded highly

Excellent communication and writing skills, attention to detail and highly organized

Self-starter, able to work independently and in teams, able to multi-task

Pursuing architectural licensure in the State of California is a major benefit
