We're searching for a Vice President - Facilities & Construction. This position is responsible for leading the delivery of safe, efficient and cost effective Plant Engineering and Plant Operations/Maintenance, Grounds, Safety, Security, Emergency Preparedness, and Environmental Services. This role is also responsible for construction and the management of all leasing and real estate activities including negotiations and acquisitions, property build-out, management, operations and dispositions, as well as space management for Children’s properties.

Develops, recommends and executes strategy and provides operational leadership for the facilities division in support of the organization’s strategic plan
Participates in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic and master plans.
Provides strategic leadership to assigned areas of responsibility to include the ability to anticipate, envision, and maintain strategic initiatives in the facilities department in support of Children’s strategic plan. Actively educates, monitors and corrects progress around goal attainment.
Provides industry leading guidance on the planning, design and execution of construction projects including vendor and business partner selection, performance oversight, design and adherence to construction standards to ensure that projects are executed at an appropriate level of quality.
Oversees project design processes to ensure the input of appropriate stakeholders to optimize program and space efficiency, effectiveness as well as code compliance.
Participates in the strategic, financial and capital planning processes pertaining to space, facilities construction, real estate and other related projects including the completion of projects on –time and within established budgets.
Oversees all real estate acquisitions including due diligence, proper valuation, leasing and terminations.
Responsible for all building and facility related operations, environmental services and maintenance departments
Ensures a safe and efficient work environment, essential to the performance of the business.
Oversees the Emergency Preparedness plan for the enterprise to maintain continuous preparedness through planning, drills and education.
Evaluates key business and organizational challenges and identifies needs, opportunities and solutions.
Leads the development of the annual budget for the division. Prepares budget variance reports and develops corrective strategies to meet the area’s operational or financial plan. Works with Finance and other departments as needed on both the annual capital budget and long term capital planning.
Ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety practices, policies, regulatory, and legal requirements.
Develops professional relationships with community partners to further the strategic and tactical goals of the organization.
Assures the development of operating systems and an effective organizational structure that result in optimum service delivery and achievement of identified tactics. Holds self and others accountable to meet stated objectives, outcomes, goals, timetables and commitments.
Prioritizes, proposes and oversees operational initiatives / system changes based on analysis of current processes and organizational goals.
Evaluates the effectiveness of and monitors the implementation and enforcement of policies, practices and procedures to maximize customer focus, efficiency and effectiveness of assigned department(s) while achieving identified standards.
Collaborates with the Executive Team on the establishment of organization wide facilities services policies.
Identifies and measures performance against best practice quality standards in support of organization’s quality plan and leads department(s) to assure that quality standards are met.
Develops or enhances operational systems to meet the needs of customers, manages resources efficiently and effectively, reduces or eliminates non-value added activities and manages costs.
Motivates, mentors and directs employees to ensure that job accountabilities are established and met.
Serves as subject matter expert regarding trends, best practices and innovations for assigned areas and identifies opportunities for their application.
Assures that the performance management system including the establishment of Employee Engagement targets is in place and that appropriate actions are taken in assigned departments to achieve those targets.
Serves as a catalyst and role model in working effectively with the medical staff and hospital leadership to create collegial relationships that optimize quality, service, cost effectiveness and achievement of identified goals. Holds routine meetings with physicians, seeks physicians’ input on pertinent matters and responds to physician questions/requests in a timely manner.
Conducts employee performance management duties including completion and delivery of performance evaluations, setting goals, dissemination of information, coaching, addressing performance issues/correction actions, and termination of employment.
Approves salary recommendations in conjunction with Human Resources.
Approves non-routine personnel actions such as corrective actions and terminations.
Determines division staffing needs and allocates personnel.
Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Leads staff in emergency situations (i.e., CPR, internal/external disaster, disruptive individuals, Code Adam). Ensures Facilities’ Division staff is trained to effectively respond to emergency situations.
Develops, reviews, revises and implements policies and procedures to assure department’s consistency and compliance with hospital standards, accrediting bodies and regulations. (e.g., Joint Commission, HIPAA, OSHA, Infection Control, Environment of Care, National Patient Safety Goals, Wage and Hour).
Ensures that privacy and confidentiality is protected in patient relationships and all other appropriate work-related areas.
Coaches staff in addressing non-compliance with standards and develops action plans as necessary.
Administers policies, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions with consistency and without regard to personal agendas or beliefs.
Ensures self and staff meet department/ organization job requirements within established time frames (i.e. licensure/certification, CPR for direct care providers, physicals, annual mandatory reviews.
Participates in and attends 75% of meetings.
Keeps abreast of department/organization policies/regulations, as well as industry knowledge through technical publications, newsletters, personal networks and professional affiliations.
Role models and ensures adherence to staff, visitor, patient, and vendor identification policy.
Directs utilization of the variance reporting system to enhance safety and identifies and implements changes for best practice.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Familiar with standard construction project documents including the American Institute of Architects (AIM) standard agreement templates
Advanced knowledge of the design and construction industry, standard practices and the different delivery methods.
Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex capital budgets and projects.
Strong planning, management and organizational experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field required. Master’s degree preferred
Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in planning and managing a facilities department, to include construction and real estate management in a health care environment required.
