Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this position is to support the Program\u2019s primacy requirements for Phase I, II and V Rules and the Arsenic Rule of federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The incumbent of this position will review and track monitoring reports submitted by public water systems, provide technical assistance to water systems, and initiate enforcement actions when necessary. On-site inspections may be required to review operations and\/or treatment and identify deficiencies in treatment. This position will evaluate engineering proposals for water treatment modifications and provide training for water plant owners, operators and managers. The incumbent of this position will be required to perform\u00a0site inspections\u00a0that\u00a0may\u00a0involve hiking to remote areas during inclement weather. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education : Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university. Experience : None Notes: 1. A Bachelor\u2019s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 20 credits in engineering and two years performing engineering or architectural work in pollution control, waste remediation, resource conservation, environmental protection, public health and safety, or related areas may be substituted for the engineering degree. 2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the education requirement. 3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Environmental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached or carry a cellphone. BARGAINING UNIT STATUS The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
