An architectural intern is responsible for carrying out day-to-day administrative and field work in a construction environment. Typical duties of an architectural intern include performing data entry for the department; assisting architectural managers and construction directors; visiting construction sites and offering advice when asked on technical matters; preparing schematics, plans and other drawings; preparing 3D models with the help of software; and performing other tasks as assigned by the architect. An architectural intern position is aimed to equip students with practical aspects of technical/ architectural education. An architectural intern typically reports to an architect.
Construction companies, highway construction departments, and contractors are the people who hire architectural interns. Generally interns are students pursuing an educational qualification in the field of architectural engineering or civil engineering. Intern positions can be paid or volunteer positions. Prior exposure to architectural work through a project may be advantageous.
